“Lack of basic discipline, knowledge, courtesy and to follow road laws in using the transportation facilities leads to millions of deaths each year around the world. But by educating citizens from an early age, we can prevent these deaths and loss of resources.”
Dr. N. Murthy, Founder
Driver Education and Enlightenment was started just to address the issues of using common sense and imparting some basic discipline to all in using roadway facilities, particularly paying attention to children and saving lives.
What is DEEP?
Driver Education and Enlightenment Program (DEEP) goal is to make children and adults aware of Road and Traffic Safety in everyday life. We want the children to return home safely after attending schools.
Vision: To create a new generation of new citizens who are disciplined, orderly and courteous in using the roads and transportation facilities in an orderly and courteous manner.
Goal: Through education and programs to improve the quality of life of ALL citizens by teaching road and traffic safety to save lives.
Objectives
A. To develop effective road and traffic safety programs using media such as videos, stories, dramas, and brochures.
B. To develop road and traffic safety subjects for classrooms for grades 1 through 12.
C. To encourage and implement road safety week in all schools and develop a National Road Safety Weeks to be held each year.
DEEP work in India – Viveka School of Excellence, Sargur, Karnataka.
In May 2013 DEEP gave a workshop on road and traffic safety to the Viveka School of Excellence in Sargur, Karnataka, India. The school was started by SVYM in Sargur(a town south of Mysore). The workshop was held for all the grade school children, SVYM drivers and local drivers.
They were taught about road and traffic safety. The school adopted “Traffic Safety Week” during January and July each year. The children produced several safety-related brochures and worked to achieve safety all around the school and while going to school walking and cycling.
DEEP Work in India – Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women (SVECW), Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh.
Engineering Association for Road Safety Awareness (EARSA) was started on April 21, 2021, at SVECW to make students aware of the road and traffic safety issues. The college is in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh. We train the student volunteers to visit local schools and educate the students and teachers in these schools to have awareness on road and traffic safety issues. One of the main objectives is to save the life of innocent children killed in road accidents.
The HOD of Civil Engineering Department Dr. Pala Girish Kumar is leading the efforts of EARSA as founder and mentor with assistance from KBR Foundation, Chairman Mr. Ratnakar Reddy and DEEP.
